It’s important to get a good night’s sleep because not sleeping can effect everything you do. According to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute the way you feel while you’re awake depends in part on what happens while you’re sleeping.
During sleep, your body is working to support healthy brain function and maintain your physical health.
Studies also show that sleep deficiency alters activity in some parts of the brain.
If you are sleep deficient, you may have trouble making decisions, solving problems, controlling your emotions and behavior, and coping with change.
Unfortunately, there are many people who have insomnia and have tried many things that don’t seem to work.
Some people think that drinking alcohol at bed time is a good idea, but it’s not.
You definitely do not want to self medicate with alcohol because instead of helping you sleep, alcohol can disrupt your sleep pattern and cause insomnia.
“Alcohol can help you fall asleep faster, it also contributes to poor quality sleep later“ according to the sleep foundation.
Here are some other things you may want to try:
- Try a Sleep Whisperer
- Sip Chamomile tea before bed
- Drink a cup of warm milk and honey before bed
- Take a bath before bed and put a little Lavender oil in the bath water
- Take a magnesium supplement, as magnesium helps you relax (check with your doctor first)
- Open your window, maybe you need some fresh air.
- Weight train early in the day
