How much sleep do you get per night?

Adults need between 7-9 hours of sleep per night” according to the Mayo Clinic.

Recently there was a story on the news regarding “Short Sleepers“.

A short sleeper is someone that requires very little sleep at night.

Because of a genetic mutation, short sleepers are unable to sleep longer than a couple of hours, and are still fully rested when they wake up.

Even on vacation, they wake up after four hours or less.

They are considered night owls and early birds, which for “Short Sleepers”  is normal!

Watch the video below to determine if you or someone you know, might be a short sleeper!

Why Short Sleepers Are Not Insomniacs!

Here are some other traits of a “Short Sleeper”:

  • No need for alarm clock
  • Rarely yawn
  • Caffeine not required
  • Naps unnecessary
  • Not sleep deprived
  • No negative health effects
  • Never tired
  • Very active

Less than 1% of the population is made up of short sleepers.

The difference between short sleepers and insomniacs is that short sleepers don’t require much sleep, while insomniacs have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep through the night, which can effect health.

  1. I think I’m jealous! But then again, I’d want to be vacuuming, etc. while everyone else is asleep! 🙁

    1. Hi Mary Ellen, thanks for the comment! Vacuuming while sleeping? I’m sure the loudness of the vacuum won’t wake anyone up. LOL Kim
