Here’s Why You Need To Check Ingredients In Your Makeup Today!

Do you wear makeup?

I enjoy wearing makeup and use many different products, but recently there’s a been a lot of news about Parabens.

Did you know that the makeup that you are wearing, at this very moment, could contain Parabens?

What are Parabens and why should we avoid them?

Parabens are commonly used as preservatives in cosmetics and pharmaceutical products.

Makeup can contain Parabens which are hormone disruptors.

Balancing hormones through food and supplementation is tough enough, but there’s also a concern for cosmetics.

Pretty scary!

Hormone disruptors can affect how estrogen and other hormones act in the body, by blocking them or mimicking them, which throws off the body’s hormonal balance. Because estrogen can make hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer develop and grow, many women choose to limit their exposure to these chemicals that can act like estrogen” according to Breastcancer.org.

Parabens are not only found in make-up, but also in shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and facial cleansers.

Call The Cosmetic Company!

If you are concerned, call each of your cosmetic companies and ask if their products contain Parabens or look on their website see if they have a list of ingredients on their website.

If the ingredients include Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Isoparaben, or Butylparaben, they contain Parabens.

Here’s a link for a comprehensive list of Paraben free cosmetic companies.

There are companies not included in this list that I’ve contacted.

Once you determine if your makeup is Paraben free, decide whether you want to continue wearing it, or search for another line that’s Paraben free.

To see if your makeup contains Parabens, download the Think Dirty or EWGs Healthy Living Apps.

To avoid common allergy causing ingredients, you can check out Skin Safe Products and just type in the name of your product to see how it rates!

Here’s a helpful ingredient dictionary that I ran across that lists ingredients (not just Parabens) alphabetically or by category!

  1. So good of you to educate people on parabens. Most women have no idea what chemicals they are putting on their skin. And the skin is the largest organ of the body. Products on the skin are absorbed and can be in the bloodstream within 60 seconds.
I use LBRI Pure and Natural Skincare and Cosmetics. They are chemical and paraben free. I love them so much.
