Judgement is about forming an opinion about others or even ourselves.
Even if it’s not the right thing to do, we all are guilty of passing judgment.
Our brains are quick to judge because we:
- Place ourselves or others on pedestals and think more or less of others based on what’s on the outside.
- Don’t allow ourselves to spend too much time on understanding everything we see.
- May be intimidated, experience loneliness, or feel insecure.
ZenHabits.net says “Instead of judging someone for what he’s done or how he looks, try instead to understand the person. Put yourself in their shoes. Try to imagine their background“.
What about judging ourselves?
We think we should be a certain weight or have a certain job or be with a certain person.
If we don’t meet our own expectations, we judge ourselves harshly which can lead to bad behavior and terrible thoughts.
Judging ourselves in a negative way, does not serve us!
Many times, we don’t realize how much we judge ourselves, because it’s so automatic.
This is why it’s so important to be mindful and watch our thoughts.
Be aware of the words you use and say about yourself.
Do your words make you sad, angry or anxious?
Instead of judging ourselves, find something about yourself that you love that you can focus on and practice thinking about daily! Something like:
- I look great in pink!
- I’m always full of energy!
- I’m having a good hair day!
- I really take good care of my animals!
- I’m a great Mom!
- I’m a wonderful friend!
There are plenty of things to love about yourself, just be creative and you’ll find something!
