Healthy Eating FAQ

Should I Focus On Optimal Health Or Weight Loss?

Optimal Health!

If you consume a diet with nothing but nutrient and fiber rich foods, the weight loss will happen as a side effect.

You may also notice that your clothes fit better, there’s less chronic pain and more energy.

How Can I Avoid Junk Food Temptation?

First, get rid of the junk in your house.

When you are not at home, and tempted to eat readily available junk or pulling into a fast food drive thru, I guess you’ll have to decide what’s more important, satisfying your taste buds at that moment or taking a step back and realizing that eating junk makes you feel tired, fat, and depressed.

It’s not part of your optimal health journey!

Even though the food may taste delicious, it only lasts for a few minutes.

The side effects happen later.

To me, it’s just not worth the weight gain or feeling badly! In my opinion, sugar is poison.

I Like To Snack In Front Of the TV, How Can I Stop?

That’s called mindless eating.

The secret is to plan, cook and assemble your meals and snacks In advance and to eat on a schedule.

Create an eating routine!

If it’s too tempting to eat unhealthy food in front of the TV, go do something else and create a new healthy habit at that time of day.

Cooking In Advance Seems Overwhelming, Where Do I Start?

Cooking in advance is a good habit!

After a couple of times will become a routine!

It keeps you from constantly having to think about food choices.

Here are some simple steps to get you started.

Take a deep breath and take it slow!

  • Look for simple nutrient rich recipes online. Check out our “go to” oatmeal recipe that we eat every single day, made a week in advance.
  • Take an inventory of what food and spices you have at home, remove junk and trigger foods!
  • Create a shopping list.
  • Go to the store and buy food and spices.
  • Verify that you have the right pots and pans and storage containers.
  • Carve out a chunk of time once or twice a week (2 or 3 hours) to cook and assemble breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks into containers for the rest of the week.
  • If you work, bring your meals and snacks with you.
  • Eat only the foods you’ve prepared.

Cooking in advance allows you to spend time on projects, hobbies or time with your family.

You won’t have to think about what to eat because it’s already assembled and waiting for you.

I’m Not Sure I Could Eat On A Schedule, How Does That Work?

Factors to consider are wake up and bed times, and if you have a job, or have to be other places during the day.

Stick to an eating schedule like you would if you had to take medication.
