In my last post I discussed how I had unidentified pain and was immediately sent for an ultra sound!
After getting my ultrasound, I was informed that I had a HERNIA and needed surgery. A hernia? Are you kidding me? Uhhhh…Surgery? What? Women get hernias? I was hoping I could just take a pill, but that’s not the way it works. A hernia occurs when the inside layers of the abdominal wall weaken then bulge or tear, and the only way to fix it is with surgery. Who knew something like that could cause so much PAIN? I’m still not sure how I acquired a hernia. It’s a mystery!
I had the surgery a couple weeks later. When my surgeon opened me up, she found out a DOUBLE hernia. What? No wonder I was in so much pain.
When I arrived home from surgery, I was in such unbelievable pain, I thought I was going to die. I took 2 Percocet every 4 hours along with Ibuprofen. Mark actually had to help me to the bathroom to hold me in place so I could go. He had to take care of me for 2 full days. The meds knocked me out (thank goodness) most of the time. When I wasn’t asleep, my abs were so painful, I couldn’t even cry! It hurt too much. I didn’t realize that I used my ab muscles for EVERYTHING. Luckily the pain only lasted a couple of days.
After I felt better, it was a BUMMER that I couldn’t work out for 8 weeks. On a good note, I was relieved that the pain that I had been experiencing finally VANISHED. I shouldn’t have waited months to get checked.
For those of you that are experiencing some kind of odd unexplainable pain, PLEASE contact your physician immediately. Don’t wait like I did. As Dr. Oz mentioned “Hernias CAN BE LIFE THREATENING”.
