Do you sit at a desk for hours every day?
We’ve all heard in the news lately how sitting in your chair for long hours is bad for you, and can cause disabilities when you become older.
If you sit in a desk chair for hours on end, you may have something known as “sitting disease”.
What IS sitting disease? Sitting disease is when you SIT TOO MUCH!
Prolonged Sitting can be linked to:
- Being Overweight
- High Blood Pressure
- High Cholesterol
- Cardiovascular Disease
- Blood Clots
- Back Pain

In the video above, Dr. Richard Besser suggests that every hour we sit, we should get up for 10 minutes. If you are at work, you can stand while talking on the phone or in meetings, or you can walk around for 10 minutes.
We know that regular exercise is important, but apparently that’s not enough. We need to engage in movement many times throughout the day.
The problem is that many of us work for a living at desk jobs and sit all day long. What if we are working on an intense project and don’t remember to get up every hour?
Well…you can set a timer, or put a reminder on your calendar, or you can do what I do…drink lots of water, see “Why We Need Water“! That’ll force you to get up, for obvious reasons!
Yes, this is a good tip for people who are glued to a desk, but this also applies to those long car rides as well. See “How To Stay Healthy While Traveling“. Get out of the car and stretch as often as you can and drink a lot of water!
Drinking water is a great way to flush the toxins and provides so many other benefits, but now there’s a new reason, to prevent sitting disease!
