Living Meat Free One Day At A Time

I’ve been meat free for a month and things are going pretty well, except for the couple of days I felt like I was starving, not sure why.  I discovered that I can order “Tofu” Teriyaki and that’s it’s even more tasty than the Chicken Teriyaki I used to order, and it’s really good with brown rice.  So far, I don’t miss meat at all.

What I found helpful was to make the switch gradually. Originally I went “full gusto” and that didn’t work.  No one can switch from meat to “just beans” in one day, can they?  I KNOW, it’s NOT just beans! I’m still trying to find a good balance.

Below are some of the new products I’ve tried:

  • Quorn Meatless and Soy Free Chik’n Patties – DELICIOUS! I bought them at Whole Foods, but found out they were less expensive at QFC.  BONUS!
  • Quorn Meatless and Soy Free Turk’y Burger – Pretty good too!  They also are less expensive at QFC.
  • Firm and Extra Firm Organic Tofu – I baked it at 375 for an hour in Chaka Sauce, BBQ Sauce, Island Soyaki Sauce and Mustard and Mrs. Dash. All have been EXCELLENT.
  • Vegetarian Chili – Cooked the Chili in a crock pot all day.  It included assorted and black beans, chili powder and a large can of crushed tomatoes and tasted great!
  • Dairy Free Daiya Cheddar Style and Mozzarella Shreds Cheese - I’m getting used to it.

Here’s what I haven’t tried yet:

  • Quorn Meatless and Soy Free Chik’n Nuggets – These are just the nugget version of the aforementioned Chik’n Patties.
  • Boca Meatless Ground Crumbles –  The Crumbles are not microwaveable, they need to be cooked on the stove.

I read the other day that Quorn has come out with a new meatless hamburger and cheeseburger and I’m looking forward to trying them.

In addition to the above, I’m still eating the normal Oatmeal, Greek Yogurt, Veggies, and Walnuts and Almonds on a daily basis with eggs every once in a while.

As I try new products, I will create new videos (see video below) and write new posts!  Stay tuned!

I’m always looking for some “Easy”, Tasty”, “Low Sodium”, “Meat-Free” recipes. If you have a good one, send a comment.
