It’s that time again! Cold and flu season have arrived! Are you prepared? In my opinion, preventive measures are the way to go. I have asthma, so when I get a cold, it’s not pretty. The cold usually mutates into full-blown asthma and I wheeze for weeks or sometimes months. Through self-care, supplementation and a yearly flu shot, I use all of the following techniques to promote a healthy body.
Vitamins are essential and important to take every day as they help boost the immune system. My regimen consists of Probiotics, Vitamin D, Multi-Vitamins, Chromium, Calcium/Magnesium, Calcium Citrate, Flax Oil, and Evening Primrose Oil.
I make an effort to exercise every day, attempt to get plenty of rest, drink 64 – 96 ounces of water per day, eat healthy foods, and AVOID alcohol as it brings down resistance to sickness. Hanging around sick people is definite no-no!
You never know when you will feel under the weather even on vacation. I usually pack such items as Inhalers, NetiPot, Ibuprofen, Tums, Allergy Pills, Soup, Crackers, Mug, Spoon, and Cough Medicine. Nothing is worse than getting sick and not having the proper resources.
Have you tried a Neti Pot?
There are so many people getting sick these days. Next time you are sick, don’t reach for the OTC drugs, try a Neti Pot instead! Do you own a Neti Pot? Neti Pots are wonderful for allergies and sinus issues. They also seem to shorten the duration of a cold if one happens to sneak into your system. If I feel a cold or sinus issue coming on, I IMMEDIATELY use my Neti Pot.
Do you know the proper way to wash your hands?
Keeping your hands washed is important. Here’s a little procedure I learned about hand washing when out and about in public places.
1. Before washing hands, ensure that your paper towel is ready in advance
4. Dry hands and turn off faucet with the paper towel
5. Use that paper towel to open and possibly close the door
6. Toss into nearest garbage can.
The point is, once your hands are washed, don’t make contact with the towel dispenser, faucet, or door. Carry hand-sanitizer with you at all times, just in case there is no hand-washing facility available!
