Recently, I received a letter from Bonnie who mentioned that she just had surgery and had been doing physical therapy. She is now working out at the gym and wanted to know, “how to stay motivated”?
Watch the video below:
Ah…A Good Night’s Sleep!
First of all, as we know, everyone is different! For me, I get motivation from feeling fantastic with lots of energy all the time, by not JUST exercising but by eating nutritious foods. I also get motivation from knowing that I will get a good night’s sleep. We all know why sleep is important!
Spend The Hour On Only You!
For you to stay motivated, I would maybe just focus on the fact that you get to spend this hour (or however long you are there) on only YOU! Bring some headphones and listen to uplifiting music or an audio book. Feel good knowing that what you are doing will help you live a long and healthy life.
Here’s What Keeps Me Motivated:
- I feel great
- My clothes fit
- I can sleep at night
- I’m full of energy
- My brain is engaged
- It gets me away from my desk
- My weight stays low
- Keeps depression away
- I feel happy
For those days that I don’t want to workout, I DO IT ANYWAY, because I know my body will be grateful when I’m done. In the post “What You Eat Affects Your Brain” I mentioned the importance of exercising 5 – 7 times per week!
Exercise Even It’s At Different Times!
It might take a couple of months to get into the swing of it, but you have to learn to develop the habit of JUST GOING, even if it’s at different times of the day.
It’s All About The Routine!
My husband and I used to actually get up at 4:45 in the morning and drive to the gym and work out from 5am to 6am, drive home, take showers and go to work. Once we got used to it, it became routine. For me, whether I’m going in the morning or in the evening (even at different times) it’s all about the routine!
Mix It Up!
Are you doing strength training, cardio machines, aerobics, stretching, or a Pilates class? If not, maybe you can mix it up a little and make it fun for yourself.
Going to the gym can enable you to make some new friends! Once you become friends, that’s GREAT motivation to go! Guess where I met my hubby? AT THE GYM! Good thing I kept going, huh?
Take that hour and do something good for yourself! You are WORTH IT!
